Austria

Austria is situated in Central Europe, north of Italy and Slovenia. Countries that border Austria are the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland. The Climate is mainly continental, cloudy; cold winters with frequent rain and some snow in lowlands and snow in mountains; moderate summers with occasional showers
Its main industries are construction, machinery, vehicles and parts, food, chemicals, lumber and wood processing, paper and paperboard, communications equipment and tourism. The language spoken in Austria is mainly German although Slovene (official in Carinthia), Croatian (official in Burgenland), Hungarian (official in Burgenland) is also spoken.

Austria was once the centre of power for the large Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria was reduced to a small republic after its defeat in World War I. Following annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and subsequent occupation by the victorious Allies in 1945, Austria's status remained unclear for a decade. A State Treaty signed in 1955 ended the occupation, recognising Austria's independence, and forbade unification with Germany.Austria entered the European Monetary Union in 1999. Austria is full of rich culture, offerings and traditions, many of them left over from the time when Vienna was the seat of a powerful empire. These days, the capital's imperial buildings may seem a bit grand and oversized for this small country. But there is nothing diminished about the country's romantic streak or its passion for rituals, whether in the coffee house, the church or the grand ballroom. Austria seems to blend a kind of Italian romanticism with a Germanic love for order. And that orderly romanticism can be quite captivating, particularly when experienced by way of a Sacher torte, a hike through the mountains of Tirol or a stroll along Vienna's Ringstrasse.

Austria is mainly a location for holidays during the winter for skiing and snowboarding with plenty of winter sports offered in the Alps, some of the most impressive and overblown architecture in Europe The cities have plenty to engage visitors. Vienna is the capital, hub of the country's musical life and littered with beautiful buildings. Music, art and architecture reach baroque perfection in Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace. Innsbruck's snow-capped peaks frame its fascinating historic buildings.
Throughout Austria, you'll find the rhythm of daily life has a musical beat; music festivals fill its calender. There's also a wonderful range of outdoor activities, from lounging on lakeside beaches to paragliding from mountains. The skiing is some of the best in the world.
