Darwin Š Australia

Australia is the sixth largest country in the world Its about the same size as the 48 mainland states of the USA and 50 per cent larger than Europe, but has the lowest population density in the world - only two people per square kilometre, Australia lies between the Pacific and Indian oceans. Its capital Canberra is in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) between New South Wales and Victoria. Australia is made up of six states and two territories. Each state and territory has its own parliament, flag and floral emblem. Australia became a federated nation after the union of the six colonies on 1 January 1901. Bound by one parliament, one constitution and one flag.

Northern Territory is almost an entire tropical region the territory has perfectly straight borders with three Australian states with the Timor Sea bordering the intricate coastline to its north. The Northern Territory is often perceived as being entirely arid and desert like which although true for much of the interior, contrasts with the fertile wetlands at the' Top End' which includes Darwin, Jabiru and Katherine. The south is often referred to as the 'Red Centre', because of its red 'martian like' appearance typified by the Alice Springs and Ayres Rock (Uluru) region. Although the Northern Territory is a beautiful majestic place, it can also be harsh and unforgiving since water and fuel may not be readily available and shade may be difficult find.

The 'capital' of northern Australia Darwin is closer to Jakarta than it is to Sydney, and closer to Singapore than it is to Melbourne, so it should come as no surprise that it looks outward to Asia as much as it looks inland to the rest of Australia. Darwin is in the far north of the Northern Territory, west of Arnhem Land. Darwin's centre is a fairly compact area at the end of a peninsula. Most of what you'll want in central Darwin is within two or three blocks of the main shopping centre, Smith St mall. The suburbs spread a good 12 to 15 kilometre (7 to 9 miles) to the north and east. Darwin's airport is 6 kilometres (4 miles) north of the town centre.
Darwin the only true tropical capital city in Australia. The city has had a tough history. It was destroyed by heavy bombing in World War II and devastated again by the infamous tropical cyclone Tracy in 1974. However, the city is tough and resilient and has been rebuilt bigger and better. Darwin is very popular with tourists, as itÕs a fascinating city with a beautiful harbour, marina complexes. Darwin enjoys year round sunshine, however, there are two distinct seasons -'The Wet' and 'The Dry'. Darwin 's most popular tourist attractions is Aquascene which is located at the end of The Esplanade in Doctors Gully. Have a unique experience where hundreds of fish come in shore to be hand fed by visitors wading knee high in the water. You will see many species of fish including catfish, bream, Milkfish and mullet. Darwin is an ideal stop to visit Kakadu and other top-end natural attractions. It's a tropical oasis with a pleasant harbour side location and plenty of nightlife.
Parks are all several km out of town. The large number of Asian eateries signals DarwinÕs proximity to Asia. Popular beaches include Mindil and Vestey's. Other popular attractions for tourists and visitors to Darwin and the Northern Territory of Australia include Crocodylus Park, Botanical Gardens - Darwin Crocodile Farm, Indo-Pacific Marine Exhibition coral and the National Parks also museums, Art Galleries
