Western Australia Ð Australia

Australia is the sixth largest country in the world Its about the same size as the 48 mainland states of the USA and 50 per cent larger than Europe, but has the lowest population density in the world - only two people per square kilometre
Australia lies between the Pacific and Indian oceans. Its capital Canberra is in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) between New South Wales and Victoria. Australia is made up of six states and two territories. Each state and territory has its own parliament, flag and floral emblem. Australia became a federated nation after the union of the six colonies on 1 January 1901. Bound by one parliament, one constitution and one flag.

The state covers almost one third of the Australian continent and is the country's largest, but least populated state. The climate of the state varies from north to south and east to west. The southern parts have a Mediterranean climate whereas the north experiences a much more tropical climate. Scenery in the state is spectacular.
Western Australia was originally discovered by the Dutch in 1616, the first settlements by Europeans were made by the British in the 1820's. Captain James Stirling founded the Swan River Colony, which was later to become the state's capital city of Perth. Western Australia is fast becoming one of the world's best eco-tourism based holiday destinations. It is like taking a world tour all in one place. You can find areas very similar to the plains of Arizona in the United States or the grasslands of South Africa. Parts of the Southern Regions remind some people of the English countryside and in other places like the tropical Pacific such as Hawaii or the Great Barrier Reef. Western Australia's capital city is Perth and has been described as being similar to California with the relaxed lifestyle and wonderful beaches. You can explore pristine wilderness and natural attractions that are completely undisturbed by man. You can Dive with the worldÕs largest fish the whale shark, snorkel with manta rays, swim with wild dolphins. Walk amongst the tree tops of ancient trees, sleep under a canopy of stars in the desert, or explore the beehive-like formations of the Bungle Bungles with the help of an Aboriginal guide. Western Australia is blessed with spectacular diversity where the deep reds of ancient interior rock formations contrast with the sparkling blue of the Indian and Southern Oceans and the lush greenery of the stunning southern regions .
