The Costa de la Luz (Coast of light) is the western part of the Andalucía coastline that faces out to the Atlantic. The sand is finer and a more golden colour than the neighbouring Costa del Sol. Rota an ancient town, that stands at the extreme north of the Bay of Cadiz. The town opens out to the Atlantic and behind are two national parks, the Natural Park of the Bay of Cádiz and the Doñana. The old town inside its ramparts has almost a medieval atmosphere. Sherries have long been produced and exported here. Rota main attraction is its beaches of fine golden sand that together with a bright sun and crystalline waters. Rota is 41 kilometres from Cádiz, 25 kilometres from Jerez de la Frontera. and the nearest airport is at Jerez.
