LOCAL GIBRALTAR HOLIDAY GUIDE

Gibraltar- nr. Costa De La Luz - Spain

The Costa de la Luz (Coast of light) is the western part of the AndalucĂa coastline that faces out to the Atlantic. The sand is finer and a more golden colour than the neighbouring Costa del Sol. The typical beaches here are more expansive and probably backed by sand dunes and pine trees. This part of the coast has not seen the high-rise hotel development of other areas.

Located at the entrance to the Mediterranean from the Atlantic Ocean - Between Europe and Africa - Gibraltar is rich in history; to the early Greek and Roman's Gibraltar was one of the two Pillars erected by Hercules to mark the edge of the world. It is not unusual for the residents of the Rock to slip between Spanish and English mid sentence and both languages are spoken with distinctive accents. The Rock which rises to a height of 462 metres and is 5km long and 1.6km at its widest doesn't leave many flat surfaces on which to live and Gibraltar town is not a big place. Gibraltar is tax free so retail therapy is a must when visiting.

Gibraltar airport is located about 2 Kilometres from the town centre adjacent to the frontier with Spain. The airport (not the terminal) is operated by the British Royal Air Force. All vehicle and pedestrian traffic to the town has to cross the runway. Safety barriers and warning lights stop visitors from straying in front of approaching aircrafts.
